Menagano publication
We have been thinking about what black landscape aesthetics might entail. This publication is an exploratory study on what might constitute a black landscape aesthetic, responding to the political and historical context of the tradition in South Africa. Informed by a contemporary community of practice as well as long-established black interpretations of landscape this publication is a tentative study of thinking with land as subject. The tentative language developed through the process of putting together this book has become the basis for the visual language of the in-progress film project Menagano: an excerpt.
The publication comprises an A4 book and an A5 text insert that proffers a set of questions in order for us to self-question our imaging and imagining of landscape.
