Host

Host is a public intervention that expands on our broader thematic concerns around access to

Information. Money is a carrier of germs, bacteria and even bioweapons such as anthrax. Money, through the exchange of hands spreads more than monetary value from person to person – no matter their race, gender or socio-economic standing. They remain undetected and often don’t infect the people who come into contact with them; but sometimes they do.

Simulating this occurrence, Host is an attempt to infect people with ideas. We have printed on money, in invisible UV ink, ideas that have been produced by thinkers whose ideas we consider dangerous. By using invisible ink on money, we limit the chances of accessing the ideas, making only those behind tills or at banks, with UV scanners, and perhaps the unsuspecting consumer in the queue, privy to what’s written on the notes. However, by targeting these people in particular we communicate with an audience not ordinarily able to access such information.
